Let Me Tell You How I Got Here
Apr 05, 2018My Mission Is To Help Improve Your Quality of Life
The title of my Podcast, ‘Core Connections’ comes from the fact that our core is the center of everything… It is our digestive system, our heart, our organs, muscles and fascia and it is all connected! A strong core is essential to feeling good not only physically, but mentally and emotionally too!
In this episode, I let you into my personal world and give you a glimpse of my journey over the past 15 years including my successes, struggles and the valuable lessons that I have learned, sometimes the hard way.
You Have To Keep Going Forward, You Have To Believe In You
When it comes to your personal life and professional life, it is all the same… You must believe in YOU even if you don’t believe it wholeheartedly yet, you must start where you’re at today. Don’t say, “Oh, I’m going to start on Monday or I’m going to start next year,"... Start Today!

TRANSCRIPT
Erica: I am beyond excited to be starting my Core Connections podcast! This has been something that I had so many people say, "Erica, you need to do a podcast and talk about these interesting things about health, wellness, business and beyond!" The big overall is that I want to help improve your quality of life. Whether that's through eating healthier, moving better or just learning more about you and your body.
The name 'Core Connections' comes from... well, the core! Really, when you stop to think about it, everything in our body revolves around the core; it's our digestive system, it's our heart, it's our organs, everything is in our core. And one of my favorite words is fascia - hold that thought, we will talk way more about that in a whole podcast coming here soon where I am going to address the topic of fascia so you can geek out with me and learn a thing or two. But the whole idea behind Core Connections is that everything's connected. That is my overall message with the body, health and wellness.
It's been an interesting, learning journey, that's for sure. But I studied lots and I love Pilates. But because of where I was in my life, it was recommended, "Well, Erica, why don't you specialize and work with prenatal women. That's where you are and you are already training pregnant women." That was the first step in the creation of Knocked-Up Fitness. That all came about and I created my first prenatal workout DVD, then another, and wrote and self-published my own book, and then we moved from Southern California.
We moved back to Iowa, which is where I grew up, to raise the kids here. The move allowed us to spend way more family time together + allowed me the opportunity to take a step back and focus on my online business because I knew there was something there; I knew there was more to come but I didn't know what it was. That was a crazy thing. I cannot stress enough. Trust your instinct, trust yourself... so many times we second guess ourselves. You must trust your instinct, trust your gut. That comes as a mother, as a person and as a business owner.
I knew there was something bigger, that I was going to be able to reach and teach more people and I feel like this podcast is such a part of that because I love doing research to back up different topics and sharing it with others to help better their lives.
For me, it was a lot of work, yes, but there's a lot of learning involved. Things are changing so quickly with trying to keep up with research or to keep up with social media and this online world. There are many days it's so overwhelming but I keep pushing through - just keep going!
What I feel these last couple of years, is that it really forced me to grow a lot personally. That's the fascinating thing to me about life. Is that you never stop personally growing. For me, I have learned that I can handle so much more in life. It has forced me to understand more about my purpose, what I'm doing, what I'm teaching, and also how to make decisions that are good for the business but also in line with my passion and family life and what I want to teach.
Briefly, with Core Rehab, I will tell you I've never felt so strongly about anything else I have done. "This has to get out there. I have to create this because women need to be able to learn and do this at home." It flew out of me. Was it perfect initially? No, but I did it.
If you don't ever start, then how are you ever going to get there?
Little things can make such a big impact on your life and sometimes we don't realize it. Maybe you are already well into your journey of eating healthier, moving better, working on your positive mindset. That's a piece that I want to work on too - because the mindset is such a big part of living a healthy life.
"Whether you believe you can or believe you can't, you’re right" (Henry Ford) - so true!
But at the end of the day, believing and knowing that this is going to work and I am going to do this. It's your mindset that is going to be a game changer for your life. It's a big, big boost to your quality of life and I cannot stress that enough.
Okay, so I feel like I have rambled enough about my story. One thing I want to close with is motivation. The motivation for doing what you're doing even if it's just about you wanting to be healthier because you want to feel your best. It doesn't matter what it is. For me, I'm motivated because of my kids, my husband and I to live the healthiest life possible. We need to spend time focusing on ourselves.
You must take care of yourself before you can really be the best version of you to take care of others.
